Chapter 13

Someone was screaming, and something near Leonard moved. A hand slapped him and yanked him out of the darkness of his sleep.

He almost jumped up until he realized he was staring at the ceiling. He was still in his room, on his bed, which he’d tucked himself into a few hours ago.

A scream rang out again, and he knew it was coming from beside him. He sat up, and Harper was thrashing and screaming. She rolled around and bumped into him, then moved her arm and almost punched him in the chest.

Leonard wrapped his arms around her, locking her arms against her sides.

“Harper! It’s a dream. Wake up.”

Harper moved, trying to free herself from him. Her legs were still kicking, soon resulting in the blanket landing on the floor. She kicked his shin as she struggled. It seemed she was a lot stronger when she was thrashing around.

He gently bit her shoulder. Whatever she was living through was all just a dream and wouldn’t actually hurt her. She needed to wake up. Yet, all the bite did was make her scream even louder. It pained him to hear it. Whatever was in the dream had to be awful.

Leonard’s heart skipped a beat as a memory of what he had told her a few hours ago flashed into his mind. Had those things managed to sneak into her dreams?

Crap...

He really hadn’t said the right thing to make her feel better.

He hugged her tighter and also locked her feet with his, pinning her to the bed with his weight. She attempted to roll around, almost throwing him off.

His wolf howled. What was happening? No one, not even a dream, got to scare Harper like this. If there was going to be something that scared her, it had to be him and his wolf, nothing else.

Right. As if his wolf had a better idea to help other than coming up with those stupid ideas...

Leonard growled. “Harper! Time to come back to me now.”

Harper yelped, and her body jerked. The tension inside her spiked, but she stopped moving around. He rolled off her but kept holding her. He nudged her head to get her to rest against his shoulder.

“Harper, are you okay now? Open your eyes; everything’s fine. You are safe with me.”

She opened her eyes a tiny crack, as if trying to decide whether he was lying.

He pecked a kiss on her lips. “Hey! You really are fine. It’s just a dream.”

Harper frowned, and she opened her eyes completely. Her hands patted around, almost touching his cock as she searched for something.

He asked, “Cold? You kicked the blanket away when you were thrashing.”

She rolled to look for it, and he got up and picked up the blanket, putting it back onto the bed. She curled into it.

Did she prefer the blanket to him? That was pretty insulting.

He climbed back onto the bed. It was still dark outside, and he didn’t want to be anywhere else. As soon as his ass hit the bed, she clung onto him, moving more quickly than his eyes managed to follow.
